oak trees

I have several oak trees which have been planted in the wrong place.  Question is if I clip them like a hedge will it make the roots smaller?

  • To a certain extent, limiting the top growth will have an effect on the roots, much as it would any hedge. So, yes, there will be less root growth from smaller, clipped trees than there will be from a large, more spreading tree.  However, is there somewhere else for the trees  If they were only recently planted they could be lifted at this time of year, causing minimal stress on them and re-sited elsewhere.  Oak isn't the first tree that comes to mind when I'm asked for hedging!
