I have some Hazel near me and I've been eating them green and now ripened brown and they are delicious. Green were eaten raw with salad, rather mild tasting, picked a load as they were ripening a few weeks ago with the intention of eating them at Christmas. Thought I'd do a bit of taste testing for quality control purposes and I've eaten them all!!

Yikes it has taken me ages just to shella cup full! Some cake recipes say Hazelnuts needs blanching? Is that right?
Depends on your choice - the brown skin usually flakes off if you roast them. That's easier than blanching in hot water.

I love fresh green hazel nuts and I'm very jealous. You're lucky to have beaten the squirrels to them
