Blue Irises
We have those big bright blue irises, they flower the same time as the red perennial poppies, (Monty raves about the colour combo) This year NOT ONE of them flowered, absolutely no growth whatsoever, anyone else had this problem?

Do you mean the Sibirica type? Are they congested?
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Not sure what type we inherited them, no they arent congested.
Perhaps they are the so-called English iris, I. Latifolia, that actually come from the Pyrenees. I have these and love them, they bulk up well and I can spread them around.
Mine did flower this year, but they were much shorter than usual. Instead of dominating the bed as they normally do and making a real statement, they were lower down among the other plants and foliage and not nearly so noticeable. I put it down to the weird spring we had and probably you can too.
Lots of plants seem to have been confused this year. My day lilies, usually reliable, were almost a complete no-show, some things grew much taller and consequently floppier than normal, and right now I have flowers on 2 rhodies, my chaenomeles ( as well as fruits!) and a primula japonica. A hellebore also flowered early but has now gone over. Perhaps next year things will go back to what we're used to, or maybe weird is the new normal
We have a dwarf rhodo out in flower as well! The day lillies were fine this year.
