Compost in pots, reknew or feed?

I have a number of large pots and wonder if they have to be filled with new compost each season or can they just be treated with something like Growmore?

If they have one permanent plant in, topdress with a mixture of compost and a fertiliser. If using for annuals or veg as temporary homes, I would use new each time.
