My sons are with Ebico, its not the cheapest but it is the only non-profit energy company, (no shareholders to pay) They both have flats (one bed) and were paying more in daily standing charges than for their supplies.
aym, yes both sons have gas and gas central heating, my son did tell me what his bill was for this summer, something like £9 for the whole quarter, really cheap, their flats are both Housing Association. They dont have economy 7, they both use these little Halagen cookers, and one uses a microwave. I have economy 7,pay 12.34 day rate and 6.26 night, there is a standing charge 13.93, but my monthly payment is still half what it was before. I do my washing, drying, dishwashing, cheap rate Hubby gets up at 5, so puts everything on, I dont think the neighbours would like me cutting the grass then though! I make jam (induction hob) batch make cakes, casseroles, crumbles, early in the morning, and my night use is at least a third of my day.
My oldest son worked out from my last few years useage, and with Ebico, no standing charge and Extra with standing charge I would be paying the same, so there was not point in swapping. Am signed up with Moneysavingexpert (formally Martin Lewis) Got back a 3 and a half grand PPI from 10 years previously thanks to him, paid for a new front door and couple of windows.
Ooooh thank you Aym, nice that someone thinks so. My kids get mad at me, when I ask them techno, PC stuff, BUT they just stretch across me, and do the whatever instead of SHOWING me. I spent the last 20 years of my life working on a Hyper Acute Stroke Unit, so I said to them, you come to work with me and operate MY stuff. Get that wrong someone could potentially die!So, at the mo, am paying less than £700 for Gas and Electric. What does everyone think of these "smart meters", I personally think they are a waste of money, you can look at your meter daily if you want to know what you are using. I wouldnt look at the meter (or the smart one!) and think, Oh, I mustnt have a cuppa because the meter will whip round.
No, but some of the "smart meters" dont work with a new supplier. They arent "fitted", they just sit on a worktop, I read somewhere last year that double glazing doesnt make anywhere near as much difference as the installers of said item claim. We have cavity wall insulation, it was already here, a few new doors and windows which have a higher energy saving rating because the old seals had "blown" looked liked someone had poured milk inbetween the 2 panes of glass.
Doghouse I was paying £111 a month with Scottish Power, now paying £52 with Extra Energy. It wasnt just the cost a couple of years back they got my night and day readings the wrong way round and it took them a staggering 9 months to sort it out!! £137 with day night meters isnt a good plan.
No, I dont know Daligas.Extra Energy have been around some years now. I signed up for the Sun (newspapers) collective energy save back in March, actually, just had a look, my monthly DD is £51, not £52 as I put before. Was talking to a lady shopping the other day (as you do) she said she was on a deal with EDF, costing £60 a month, and finnishing in January. I know from old, the Ombudesman sayes they have to put you on the best deals but the jolly well dont.
My oldest son (who is with Ebico now) used to work for EDF in their emergency call centre, we were then with SSE, he said they were the only company NOT complained about at that time, but that was a few years ago.
Oooh thank you sweetie! I am 66 and pretty rubbish with computers, dont possess a smart phone, I signed up to Martin Lewes Money expert. Also absolutely NOTHING to do with gardening, got my oldest son, (he is a computer whizz kid) he has just a Sainsbury where he lives, he does now have a car but before that his food shopping was done on a push bike. So got him to sign up for their click and collect, and got the 6 bottles of presseco for £3.33 a bottle instead of a tenner. I did pay a bit for his weekly shopping to get this deal, I could have had the shopping myself. I think what you have written is brilliant, I cant think of anything to add. I have friends who refuse point blank to change energy suppliers EVEN THOUGH a lot of them are not happy with the service, one is meant to have a boiler service in October, often it keeps getting cancelled ends up in February, she has now retired but when she was working would arrange time off work for them NOT to turn up (British Gas) They did the service, the CH went wrong, BG said one thing, they had it repaired by local firm, and it wasnt what BG said was wrong with it at all. These friends are roughly my age now, BUT they were young when they signed up with these companies! My youngest son who has a complex bi-polar condition and suffered with depression, had major problems with N power a few years back, they were reading his meter incorrectly, eventually he got back £500 from them, but the stress for him (and me, I am his carer) was enormous I can tell, you it took 6 months.
