Yes Aym280 there is a vast glasshouse in East Kent called 'Planet Earth' which we pass on the way to our relatives in Broadstairs. There is another large complex near Selby which uses waste heat from Drax Power Station. On the other hand we recently visited a local nursery for the fist time in 30 years and not only did they recognise us but it hadn't changed a bit. It is could to see the the old ones surviving.
Absolutely agree aym280. We can't help feeling sympathy for poor African countries but a very large proportion of their own people are starving on the one had but very many are living in disgusting luxury. There is so much that can be done here, urban farming, growing on grass verges etc. Some of this would attract the Health and Safety mafia, but we could stop feeding them. When we had livestock I had quite a few local youngsters used to come on a regular basis. There were rules - this is a dictatorship not a democracy and the safety code was 'look, think, be careful'. No youngster ever home with an injury.
We are off on a tour of the hallowed ground of Headingley tomorrow so must rush to get in the beauty sleep.
Having an abundance of runner beans and not wanting to waste I gave enough for at least four boilings to my sister in law..when next speaking to her I asked of the beans and did she want any more..?
Her reply was " well they were alright but it took me ages to shell, then they were so small and there was only enough for the one meal , I wouldn't have had enough for four meals,!
It would have taken her ages ,I could understand that ,what I couldn't understand was ......why did she pod runner beans ?????
If you lived near me aym you'd be very welcome to my surpless , I alwaysc grow too much . Grew water milos this year they were lovely . Saved all the seed if anyone wants any please pm me.
