You need Crocus sativus - an Autumn flowering crocus and as long as you can provide the right growing conditions you can collect saffron which are the stigmas of the flowers. However, as has already been pointed out, you will need hundreds - if not thousands of these Crocus.

  • what is the differance between colchicums and sativus ?

Colchicums are also Autumn flowering but come from species such as Colchicum speciosus and Colchicum autumnale. Colchicums belong to the Lily family whilst Crocus sativus belongs to the Iris family.

My cat did too image not sticks though but balls of wool, socks and rolled up tights and these were not from my house so heaven only knows whose house she burgled! In my house she used to 'fetch' one of those little super bouncy balls and pester me 'til I rolled it away for her again.

Just to make nutcutlets message more explicit, Colchicums are poisonous.
