What is this tree?

Can anyone identify this tree?

  • I think it's a crab-apple.  Some of them have small berry sized fruit.  Golden Hornet is one which might fit the bill.

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

Are there any more photos showing the leaves more clearly?

My first thought was Cotoneaster 'Rothschildianus from the fruits and the shape of the tree but the leaves don't look quite right so probably as Bob suggests. Have a look at images of both and see what you think

    In the sticks near Peterborough
  • Have a look at the way the fruits are hanging. Are they on branched stems - if so, cotoneaster. If they're single stems, one per flower, then it's crab apple.  I haven't blown up the picture, but I think they're in 'bunches' aren't they?  Therefore, cotoneaster.

Thanks for your replies really helpful.  Will have a look at the weekend during the day and compare images.
