What sort of mothballs @perovskia_824353625 ?

The ‘traditional’ napthalene sort that used to be commonly used have been discovered to be very dangerous to humans and to wildlife …  they are banned in many countries including the UK and Europe, and in the US is is illegal to use them in any way other than in the directions.

An old lady who lived next door used them. I could never smell any plants in my garden. Just the mothballs😕

Coleus canina, a herb nicknamed scaredy cat, is said to repel cats. Also lavender infused water sprayed around plants. I also heard of ground black pepper in hot water sprayed around but surely that would block the sprayer?

I saw a suggestion somewhere that a mixture of squeezed lemon & rosemary in white vinegar applied by a spray can be pretty effective.

I play with plants and soil and sometimes it's successful

  • @perovskia_824353625 Much like any of the " powder/liquid" deterrents which are often recommended, constant renewal is vital and the extreme weather can often mean doing this on a daily basis.  You do also need to consider any possible detrimental effects on wildlife.
ETA - I see that possible toxicity has already been mentioned
