Care for a new lawn in winter

Hi There,

I need some care advice for my 7 month old lawn, My partner kept complaining about my garden, she has been moaning about it for years, I had no interest in the garden,It was overgrown with all sorts of weeds. However, in January this year she said something to me that, that spurred me into action, She said, "If you did not want a garden ? "you should have bought a flat ??". That was it, I cleared the garden, built a shed, had the ground levelled and a Rolawn Medallion lawn laid., Safe to say , Now I have the "Gardening bug",

The lawn looked great during the summer, I watered and mowed it. Now ,the winter is approaching, I would just like to know, what I can do for my new lawn. At the moment It is weed free, It has worm casts on it,

My question is, How do I prepare it for the winter and next year ?? a lot of the products out there seem to state, that they are not to be use on a lawn less than a year old ?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi Lloyd I was in your position last year so at the end of October I applied an Autumn weed and feed.

This really did the trick.. Regarding the worm-casts that's all good as they allow air into the grass.

I leave them till Spring then when the lawn is dried out mow and they all disappear into the grass box.

I am sure going for Rowlawn Medallion your lawn looks super.

I agree with Verd - it's a bit late for an autumn weed & feed now, and not generally needed anyway if the lawn is well looked after.

Sounds like you have looked after your new lawn very well since it was laid, time to give it a rest and have one yourself.

I agree with Verdun. Do nothing now till spring. Mine has had it's last cut and will take it's chances till it eventually gets warm enough to grow again and get some attention. Too wet now as well, so I avoid going on it altogether.

Do you send your toenails away for sharpening Edd? It keeps them tip top you know...image

  • Sorry for my late reply,

Thank you John, Verdun, Pete8, and Fairygirl for your advice, I will do nothing for now. Come the spring I will do the things suggested.
