Can I use a net to remove leaves on lawn

We have a very small lawn approximately 50 m² which is overlooked by a number of tall oak trees in public land at the bottom of our garden.  I've had the trees trimmed as much as I can, but we still suffer a huge amount of leaves on the lawn every year.

I normally rake them off at the end of the falling season but my health is making this harder to do. I did rake it last year but for the whole of this year the lawn has had many small bald patches cause by small numbers of oak leaves left on the lawn.

My question is this - since my lawn is small, could I place a fine net on the top of the lawn before the leaves fall, and then simply lift the net to lift the leaves off the lawn?

If your mower has a grass collection box could you simply go over the area with that?  You would have shredded, collected leaves, perfect for leaf mouldimage

I don't see why not. You'd probably need to peg it down in case of winds and of course if you leave it in place till all the leaves have fallen - which may take a few weeks - then the lawn will be suffering in that time. The net might be quite heavy to lift also. Have you thought of a 'cheap' lawn blower? Would be easier than raking or, if you have a dry spell then the mower with grass box is a good way to collect the debris.

    Use your lawnmower?

    Devon.
  • You could get a leaf sweeper and use the leaves for leaf mould, or maybe a garden vac or a leaf blower, though that would put would put them on the borders, which might not be what you want.

A netful of wet leaves would be heavy and hard to lift and nearly impossible to empty!
