Grass Seed Hasn't Germinated
Hi everyone,
On the 2nd of October I overseeded my entire lawn, and filled in holes and seeded those. I have been watering ever since, but not one grass seed has germinated yet.
What am I doing wrong? It hasn't been two weeks yet, but the seed I used was Verve's Quickstart seed, and all the reviews have commented on its speed (mainly germination in a week).
Did I sow it too late? Is it all dead? I am very worried... And the lawn continues to be the bane of my life :-(.
These pictures are of the lawn, where I've seeded, and of a pot in the conservatory with grass seed (accidentaly!) sown. These have started to grow.
Any advice? Thanks!

Too cold I'd reckon.
Grass needs a min temp of around 10 to 12 degrees to germinate. At this time of year it will be slow, especially if you're in a colder area. It also needs to be in good conatct with the soil. If you're watering a lot, it may simply rot rather than germinate.
The ground doesn't look very hospitable for grass either. You need good light, and good friable, well drained soil for grass to do well.
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
The ground did have grass growing well before the dog... I think I may have sown too late, and so I'll have to keep my fingers crossed and be patient. Do you think it will eventually come up though?
Eventually it will. It's going to get milder soon and we'll lose this easterly airflow so be patient.
I am in Cork Ireland and the grass I sowed 3 weeks ago has germinated fine. Was amazed at the price of the seed though- robbery.
Thanks for all your replies - I feel much more hopeful now! I suppose I must just wait, but should I water parts of the ground that are completely dry?
Yes, seed won't germinate dry. First stage of germination is taking in water

I sowed some yesterday.
It's tough stuff. It all comes to a stop when the temperature gets too low but starts again when it warms up.
A couple of years ago I sowed some in November, snow covered it after germination and it carried on after the snow melted
