Passion Flowers Fruits

Hello All,

I've had some lovely flowers on my Passion Flower this year, and for the first time I now have fruits, which are green.  Are these edible as they are or do they have to turn dark, as I've seen Passion Fruit in the Supermarket which are a deep plummy colour?  If so, will I leave them to ripen on he plant or take them off and put them ? where ? to ripen?  Thanks.

    P. edulis is the one in the SMs. What's yours? I think most of them are only edible in the sense that they're not poisonous

  • They'll turn orange, and, I'm afraid, although edible, nothing like the wonderful flavour of the ones you get in the shops. That's passiflora edulis, your's will be p. caerulea.

  • Good Morning,

Thank you for your replies nutcutlet, H-C & phillippa.  Mine must be the p caerulea as that's the name of the plant.

As I don't have a G/H or Polytunnel I wont be growing the P edulis, but I will now buy them in the S.M. and admire mine while on the plant.  Thank you all.
