  • Amazing to see a woodpecker eating from your hand, Johnny.  image

Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
  • Even seeing a woodpecker is a rarity, let alone eating from your hand.  How do you do it Johnny?  You certainly must have a special affinity with the birds in your area.

  • Just had a woodpecker on one of the nut feeders, we love the goldcreast feeding in conifer trees, they are so sweet. It's a wonder they can fight against the high winds that are about at the moment!

  • It was a woodpecker that was the first at my feeding site today. I hadn't even had the chance to untie my bag of bird seed from off my bike, nor set my thermos of coffee on the table (for myself).lol

  • The Long tailed tits have started to build their nest. The same place as last year.imageimage

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Fairy, I love watching our nuthatch on the sunflower seeds.  (Only one bird visiting at the moment, sadly.)  He stays on the feeder for some time, stuffing his beak until it won't close, then flying off - maybe to stash the seeds somewhere for eating later.  image

  • The crows are a real menace here.  They attack the smaller birds often killing them. They hang around by the bird boxes so the birds are put off from using the boxes for nesting in.  They have hijacked our fat ball feeder and throw it to the ground.  How can I get rid of them?

  • I have been sprinkling some of the wild bird seed under hedges and hoping that the little birds like the robins and blackbirds will find it rather than perhaps a mouse or rat during the night. However it does mean that we aren't able to watch them feeding.  I am trying to build up the birds strength for egg laying and parenthood.

  • Have you tried squirrel-proof bird feeders, GD?  Fairygirl made a cunning one herself, a netting cage in which her feeder sits; you can buy them too, though some are pretty expensive.
