  They're useful for all sorts of things such as cuttings, hardening off seedlings raised in the greenhouse and thus leaving space for more, sheltering smaller pots over winter etc.

  The advantage of a cold frame is that you can take its lid off to harden stuff off. With the GH you have to keep taking plants out and putting them back at night.
