plant identification

Hi ,we have just taken over an extra bit of garden from our non-green fingered neighbour and this bush has just popped these fruits. Can anyone tell me what they are and can we eat them?

    Cornus kousa maybe

    In the sticks near Peterborough
  • Well many thanks. just as i thought, will have some time picking as been allowed to ramble for years will be pruning back as just on the new boundary line so hopefully want kill it of.

  • Cornus kousa type it is, possibly one called 'Norman Hadden', which is a prize of a tree.  Showy white bracts in late spring, They flush to rosy pink before falling, then the fruits develop and finaly the leaves turn beautiful shades of orange, red and purple.  Prune it now and you'll lose the flower and fruit for next year.
