Hi I was wondering whether you can buy any meadow seed which can be sown over ground without digging...also approx what time of year is best to sow horseshoe vetch seeds so that butterflies can get the most benefit.

Most native plants respond well to autumn sowing, in nature the seed is set in summer and autumn, some plants germinate quickly before winter, others wait til spring.
What sort of meadow are you thinking of, perennial with grass or annual? Native or non-native?
Horseshoe vetch is a chalkland plant I think, is that what you have?

hi...I was thinking of native perennial or annual only.
And yes it is a chalkland plant... perfect for the Downland where I live. The Adonis Blue has colonised the area and I would like to encourage them even more if possible.
great idea, I wouldn't deep dig, just loosen the surface a bit and sow like you would grass seed. All native plants can take an autumn sowing, if they couldn't they'd have died out.
