Using weedkiller around trees.
I've just cleared a small piece of ground of brambles and ivy in my mother's garden. There's a big Cordyline tree there which was surrounded by these weeds at groud level.
I was wondering if I used a weedkiller to kill off all the bramble and Ivy roots will it affect the tree ? It's 20+ years old so I was hoping that the roots will be so deep it wouldn't be affected by the weed killer.

If you've cleared the weeds what are you going you put the weedkiller on? Weed killers generally work through leaves
If there's anything you can put on soil to kill roots it won't differentiate between brambles and tree.
In the sticks near Peterborough
Well I used MBK brushwood killer on another patch of ground without a tree, after cutting the brambles and ivy down first and it killed the roots off as well.
I applied the weedkiller with a watering can. The bramble and ivy roots weren't deep and I was hoping someone could tell me how deep the weedkiller would penetrate when applied with a watering can with a rose, because I'm assuming the tree roots will be very much deeper.
