Further to my quotes regarding my Whitebeam tree I have again looked at the tree and have found 2 large holes on the bark see photos.  There are also little flea type insects around.  What can I do to make the tree better?  Outwardly it looks okay and has a good mantle of leaves, but it did have sap leaking in early April.

    thanks for your help

Hi All I checked the tree this year. It has leafed and seems to be okay. The trunk however has a major hole in it and I can see the inner part of the tree. I think a woodpecker got at the tree.

Well, woodpeckers have got to live somewhere. Not many people are lucky enough to see them at close hand. 😊

Ah, I know what you mean but it hurts me when they hurt the tree and my tree in particular.

Has it bled anymore? If not then it is probably cured and will eventually grow a scar around the hole. You could put some netting around the hole to protect it from invaders.

Yes It is dry now just s big hole the size of my hand . I will look to find some netting. Seems like my trees must be tasty because the base of some trees have been eaten, I thought it might be rabbits. But haven seen any.
