Can anybody tell me what this flower is?

I found this flower in a friend's garden. It is a single flower at the moment but there may be another flower bud above it. The flower is the size of my thumbnail. It is on one branch of a forked stalk about 6 inches from the ground. There are no leaves to help with identification. I wonder if anyone can identify this for me. Thank you.

Looks like a little larkspur

Thank you so much for your reply. I have looked up larkspur and it looks to be the one. It only has the one flower which threw me completely. Thank you very much x
