Please help me identify these types of plants?

So I was recently in japan and there was this absolutely beautiful garden out the front of the hotel. These pics definitely don't do it justice but I absolutely loved the way they blended a couple of different plants together to create such flow and natural beauty. And actually I fell in jove with Japanese gardening techniques in general...absolutely beautiful what they do.

I'm a real novice when it comes to gardening but passionate and love trying new things at home and in the backyard.

Any help on what these types of plants are would be so gratefully appreciated. Even similar plants would be great.

Thanks everyone :)

  • And sorry I've just realised this is in the wrong forum.

  • Don't worry about that, there's always someone here who will answer!  And it is a sort of problem, especially as the photos are a bit blurred!   I think the golden one is a type of privet, called ligustrum sinense 'Sunshine', from the leaf pattern. It's been kept clipped fairly low, but will grow to about 5 or 6 ft. H-C

  • And, I think the silver variegated one is the same genus, ligustrum sinense 'Variegatum'.
