Clover requires a temperature of about 7 degrees Celsius to germinate, so mid-September is usually the latest that it is sown, unless your garden is in a mild area.
If you are over-seeding it into an existing lawn, then the best sowing times are March-April or July-September, when the grass is not growing too strongly, so not giving too much competition while the clover is young.
Thankyou Β for your Β response and much appreciated info pbff Β
I am overseeding and the sewing was under way early sep Β and was about an inch high..........then it rained non stop for a day and the sprouting clover was submerged under the poorly drained clay soil and over half of it disappeared .......will it come back? Β Β will I have to wait until next year to overseed again?
Some of it may come back, but you'll probably need to over-seed again in the spring.
