can someone please help identify the plant in this photograph?  It bears red berries & am hoping it will look good for Christmas in the garden.

plus:  can you give me any suggestions for any other plants/shrubs to plant now for colour in my pots & hanging baskets at Christmas time?  to brighten up the season ?

"Thankyou" so much -

could it be a Gaultheria procumbens, also known as the partridge berry?

I would agree with G procumbens but does also look like Vaccinium vitis-idaea the Cowberry.

  • My thought would be Gaultheria too though I've never grown it, so can't be certain. The reason why I have never grown it is that it needs acidic soil. So do Vaccinium species, so if you want it to look good by Christmas time, invest in some timed released ericaceous fertiliser...
