Grubs

I've just found a white/cream grub on the outside of a pot of sweet peas. It has orange patterning on it, quite small, any ideas, anyone? Thanks.

    Any chance of a photo?

  • Sorry Dove, I don't have a five year old to show me how to do it!! I found it this morning but after being in the sun it seems to have dried out somewhat and now looks a little like a ladybird larvae, which it definitely isn't. It wasn't like anything I've seen before though

As long as it wasn't one of these

  • No, smaller than that, more oval shaped and an orange patterning on the back, can't quite describe the markings, but thanks for your help, can't seem to find any decent pictures online

  • Does it look anything like this ladybird pupal case?

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
  • Hi Bob, no, it didn't, it was creamy/white with pale orange markings, but if I'd looked underneath I would have seen it did look more like the undercarriage of a ladybird! Now that it has dried out it is a ladybird in its early stages. I'm assuming that it's dead, it seems like the wrong time of the year, but what do I know, eh. Should have looked more carefully. I'll put it somewhere and see what happens, not much I suppose. Thanks to all that took the trouble to help this old duffer!

Could have been a different type of ladybird - there's all sorts - just a few here ...

  • Ooh, that's interesting, top left looks close to it, although I didn't see the legs that's why I thought it was a grub. Silly me.
