Onions and Shallots
This year I hung my onions and Shallots in bunches in the greenhouse until they had completely dried, after cutting off the dried tops I stored them in plastic mesh trays. Over 75% have just rotted away, going to evil smelling mush. any ideas as to why??

Thanks, It may well be a fungal problem as my store is well ventilated and dry.
hi graham smith bad look to loose a lot of onions .I have over 650 in shed but I made some tressels and got slaters lath and made racks 7ft long by 3ft wide and put stems down (I cut a lot of) to let them dry that way I sometimes loose a few but I try and leave a door open in shed I have a few black trays with slats in to stop cats or mice getting in but as scroggings says humidity is a dad thing I also have the window open but a piece of mesh over opening to stop birds
Thanks
I think it must be a virus as once it started it spread very quickly, even to the ones in the vegetable rack in the house were affected.
