Sandy patches on lawn

Hi,

I have a couple of sandy patches showing on my front lawn, I have been told these are made by worms. When I mow the lawn the mower skims the top of the `sand` off and leaves an unsightly scar. Is there any way I can either cure this or at least, minimise the problem?.
