Makeshift cold frame

I have some old wooden garage storage shelves that I'm thinking of converting into a mini greenhouse/coldframe. I've bought some thick polythene which I'm going to staple to the frame to cover it to protect my seedlings and plants over winter. The only problem is that the polythene is not clear but opaque. Will it let enough light through for my plants to survive? Any thoughts or advice appreciated.Β

Hi Bright star,
When you say 'opaque', do you mean totally opaque, as in black polythene like you'd use as a weed suppressant?
If so, then no, your plants will not receive enough light to photosynthesise and they'll go all spindly and pale.
Clear polythene would be better
