my scabious plants are developing white leaves .... Doesn't appear to be causing plant any stress ..... Is this normal this time of year ? Anything I should do about it ?

probably mildew. I wouldn't worry at this time of year. Are they scabious or the similar Knautia macedonica? they are very prone to mildew.

yes definitely Mildew Neil. Keep the earth clean around it of fallen leaves. Either burn them or dispose of them away from the area.
How come one of my pond plants has powdery mildew? Its hardly suffering from drought conditions.

Pond plant....not scabious. Just puzzled as to how a problem caused by drought can afflict something that is permanently standing in water.
Powdery mildew takes hold when a plant is weakened - drought is a common cause of plant growth being weakened, but it's not the only cause.
