Over wintering plants

Hi,

I have a few -newly planted this year - terracotta dishes, which I have planted with succulents and alpines. Can anyone advise how best to over winter these? I do have a cold frame , its one of the green plastic ones, Im not sure if that would be do damp though?

I also have canna's currently flowering in the garden, when would it best to lift them, or should they be okay topped with a thick mulch.  All suggestions appreciated.image

Alpines should be Ok kept on the dry side in a cold frame. Succulents are more likely to be frozen, it would be better to keep dry and frost free. Cannas can survive under a thick mulch, but flower later.  Unless you are in Cornwall I would lift and keep dry until March, then start in gentle heat.
