Rose problems

The leaves on one of my rose bushes are being attacked but I don't know what is causing the problems - can anyone help identify it please?
As you can see there are holes and also greyish/brown markings on the leaves. This is a first year rose bush which has flower profusely since April time.

I will be giving the rose bush a prune when all the flowers have finished - will that cure the problem or will it re-emerge next Spring?
Oh, that's pretty unpleasant to find
I am sure it will recover though. I don't know what it is though - never seen that. Hope someone can help.

Could be sawfly damage. The little blighters can strip a rose pretty quickly but shouldn't cause long term harm.
Caterpillars, probably sawfly indeed. Caught a few on mine this year just in time though, seriously shredded.
Thank you wakeshine - I had never experienced this before on our roses and I have been growing them for 35 - 40 years (gosh am I really that old?!?) I will take a much closer look at the rose plants tomorrow Ceres and mark - I now know what I am looking for (just googled sawfly) - so thanks for sharing your thoughts - I will let you know what I find. I love my roses bushes which were mainly given from family and friends so they are extra special.
I looked closely on our 4 front rose bushes this morning and found just two very small caterpillars which I put onto the bird table. I find it hard to believe that these 2 would have caused so much damage. I will prune the roses in a few weeks time when the flowers have finished and give the flower bed a thorough going over to check for any more. I am hoping that the birds will clean the bed of any nasties but now that there is a cat around the birds are more cautious and careful at ground level (which may be part of the problem).
