Beech hedge dying

My neighbours 20 year old beech hedge has started to brown and die. It began with a small patch on one tree and has slowly spread to those next to it. There is no obvious fungal infection or canker. When the bushes were lifted it was really easy as the roots had died. What can my neighbour do?

Your neighbour's hedge may be suffering from honey fungus.
