I'll be doing likewise fidget. The rest will go on the new areas by the boundary which are still to be planted up. It's useful as a mulch for hedging too.

I am really shocked that you have to pay to have your garden waste taken away. Where are you situated? I have a green bin for garden waste plus the contents of the food waste caddy in the kitchen (I am also provided with the biodegradable bags to line the food caddy). The green bin contents plus food waste are collected fortnightly all year around.

I chuck mine on the compost bins.

We have a full size wheelie bin for garden waste. I've never once put it out as I compost virtually everything and have a dumping area for bigger, woodier stuff. But our lovely council think it's ok for us to put our food waste in black bags for the cats, crows foxes etc to rip apart. Bless'em.

We pay £60 a year which seems ok to me. I only use it for sticks and the like.

Very 'interesting' that some people have to PAY to have garden waste recycled! I thought this nation was supposed to encourage and support recycling, green-ventures and being active etc?

We have a great recycling and garden waste system in Wales, although I would like to see free compost bins as well.

My garden and I live in South Wales.

In Redditch we have what we call a dumb, take anything to be recycled,or dumded. There are different skips to put different things in,like one is for garden waste and can take old pots of paint, electrical, anything like that. We don't have to pay,but we have a ticket to show when we go there.image

Yes we have to pay £1.30 per bag (Isle of Wight) for garden waste.I don't have a car so going to the dump is not an option.Anyone I know going to the tip usually has a car full of their own garden waste!!!

We also have to phone or submit an online form to have the waste collected on recycling day. This is every 2 weeks. You also have to submit or phone at least 4 days before. If you miss it you have to wait another 2 weeks before it's collected!

The sacks we buy are biodegradeable and are awful, much to thin and flimsy and they start to degrade as soon as anything damp is put in it (grass cuttings etc) I have had to double and once triple bag as the bottom falls out.You then have to find somewhere to store the filled bags for up to 2 weeks.I have a garage but many don't.

    Everyone hates this system! image

I am pleased to note that we do tend to find good use for our compost, I use old compost to earth up potatoes and it works well too..   I will also use it to fill my pots with spring bulbs.. Potaoes I grow are mostly in containers and the soil is still pretty good.  I hope we all get good use out of our gardening tips ..
