Spots on my olive tree

imageimage

Can you pls help me. There are these spots growing on the leaves and branches of my indoor olive tree. After a while the leaves dry up and fall. Now they are falling at a fast pace that i feel my tree will die. Do you have any solution please. Thank you

  • Looks like an extremely severe infestation of scale insect.  I would normally recommend rubbing them off or dabbing with methylated sprit but it looks too severe for that.  Spray it with Provado systemic insecticide which will be absorbed by the tree and will kill the insects.  A second treatment may be needed in a few weeks.

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
  • One of the main causes of such an infestation (and it is scale) is the fact that it's indoors. Olives are very tough and perfectly suited to life outdoors in this country in a sunny spot, sheltered from the fiercest cold. However, I accept that you may not have that option so I would spend a while wiping off all the little pale brown 'limpets' from everywhere. I hate pesticides, but I also accept that wiping them off will be time consuming. That said, you'll have to clean off the leaves and stems anyway after the creatures have been killed, so a sit down with a glass of wine and a cloth will do the job in one hit.

  • Thank you so much for the help. Will try to get Provado and clean up whatever I can
