Removing berberis and escallonia

I very reluctantly have to remove a berberis (to make the garden child friendly) and an escallonia which is in a tiny space it should never have been planted in.
Which tools/saws would be best? I am not a powertool sort of person!

when removing the stump remember to leave a decent section of trunk (1m is perfect) so you can use it for leverage
