Fern

I have a large mature hardy fern. I don't know what it's called but the leaves are a similar shape to the Boston fern house plant.

I root pruned it a couple of years ago but it's got too big for it's boots again.

Should I plant it out (clay soil)  or divide it - or both?

And when should I do it?

    It's in a,pot. It's good to know I can do it now or I'd forget for another yearimage

    Will return a bit to the pot and plant out the rest.
