Verbena Bon is one of my favourite perennial flower and I have six planted around my allotment to add height as they look fantastic in full flower at nearly six feet high.
I planted the seed which is like pepper dust however two years on they are excellent and also used for cutting and display very colourful and striking
Well worth planting in a garden at the back and not much maintenance needed
As I am trying to eliminate as many pots of sterile (sorry to all the fans of these lovely plants) bedding plants that look attractive but don't tempt the bees I will look for the smaller verbena to begin with to grow in the pots. We do have a windy garden so I will give the taller plants a miss and also I will try to grow them from seed.
They're pretty robust GD - the Verb bons. Wouldn't last long here if they weren't
I thought I'd give the orange agastches a go Verd - I felt it wasn't expensive if they didn't work out too brilliantly either
I don't really want blues in the garden at all, unless they're reddish/purple so I don't grow any of the usual agastaches. I had one round the corner - many moons ago. Can't remember which one though.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
I have 6 V.bonariensis and 3 lollipop in my garden!! The butterflies love them!! I have had 5 or 6 butterflies all at once hovering over border in a kaleidoscope!! I love the verbena as it adds wonderful height and you can see straight through them.
Thanks for the pictures Andy - it has given me an idea and you are probably right Verdun - these plants sway with the wind, my hollyhocks and sunflowers often snap with the wind - I am keen to get sowing as soon as I have the seeds available. I notice that you have two different Rudbeckias in your picture Andy - are you pleased with them? I have Toto Gold and ...?...Dwarf, they look very similar to yours.

Happy gardening
I'm looking to get my hands on some Black Adder for the bees too
back of the border jobbie I think.

I've got verbena lollipop growing next to bonariensis. Will take a pic in a bit once I've got the twins to sleep ?.
Not the best pictures but hopefully you can see the difference between the two.
