Sclerotinia - lettuce

I've been growing veg organically for over 25yrs in my garden without any major problems. This year my lettuce wilted completely and did not respond to watering.  When I removed them, there was a white power/fungus on the roots and in the surrounding soil.  The leaves were unblemished.

I did an internet search and believe that the problem maybe sclerotinia, and that I can not grow lettuce in the same soil again for approx 3yrs.

What I cannot find out is:

a.  is there a treatment for sclerotinia - organic or not.

b.  is there anything else I can grow in the effected soil and if so, what?

I dug the area over and had to transplant my leeks into it as I'm short of room.  So far they seem okay.
