    which bit of the heucheras did you put in the water? have tried in potting medium before but failed.

    Interesting variations on over-wintering geraniums.  Many moons ago, my mother always overwintered hers by lifting the plants, wrapping them in newspaper and storing them in our cellar for the winter.  They were kept totally in the dark without any water.  Each spring, they were resurrected, pruned and re-planted, and produced lovely, healthy plants.

    I have never done it this way - not least because I don't have a cellar under the house.  But I guess the constant cool temperature played a part in keeping the plants. I'm not sure that I'd be brave enough to try this, though.

    I cut off every shoot there was (soft growing tip on the top and an inch or two of the woody stuff - it was possibly extra woody/leggy due to the vine weevil damage). The roots came through from the older, woodier bit at the bottom. It took a longer while with some, but all produced roots in the end.

    I have just remembered that, (rather embarrassingly!) I have still got some cuttings surviving in the water since spring. Although the water is rather green, I've taken a picture of one below.

    I will go pot them up now...
