Ornamental Tree

Hi Everyone,
I have a Prunus Cerasifera 'Spring Glow' Tree (See photo)
I planted the tree about 3 years ago, but I have been a little careful about pruning the tree. Now the tree has got quite big and spindly, so I was wondering when is the best time to prune and how do I prune.
Thanks for help in advance.

All prunus should be pruned in summer Pelo. They are susceptible to silver leaf disease if you prune them now or in the winter. Silver leaf disease is a fungus and will kill the tree, usually over several years. Next summer you can take the long branches back by a third to half which will promote side shoots which will help fill the canopy out for you.
Thanks Bob
Do you know is there a certain way to prune ie upward and outward facing bud?
Or does it not matter.

Yes, cut just above an upward and outward facing bud Pelo. Side branches will also form from shoots which will appear at some of the leaf joints further back from the cut.
Thanks Bob
I will give that a go next year.
All the best
