Pond/bog talk

I don't seem to be able to find my old posts, so starting another - bogs. When making a new pond is it a good idea to include a boggy area and if so, what type of plants (to attract wildlife) would you recommend planting in a bog? I think the idea is to give any wildlife shelter next to the pond. Would you use a separate liner rather than the pond liner?

    imagePicture showing proposed bog area is on the far right, the little rectangle piece of grass next to the patio so giving the pond a clean line straight across to the gravel.
