Brown Canna leaves

Can anyone tell me why the leaves on my Canna have large brown marks and look like they are going to die. There is new growth from the bottom. I was given these plants in pots which I potted into larger pots when I got them.

Cannas like a lot of water, so perhaps they have been too dry?
the new leaves look fine. I'd say it looks like the leaves have been wet then in full sun.
