Actually we don't see much of the leaves on that photo. But to me they do look like oenothera biennis leaves. Can you post a new photo showing the leaves in more detail?
Thanks for the new photo! Those look like second year leaves.
This site says "first year basal leaves, elliptic to lanceolate, wavy margins, prominent white mid-vein, basal rosette; second year stem leaves, alternate, smaller with height, sessile". https://extension.umass.edu/landscape/weeds/oenothera-biennis
Thanks Papi Jo. We've only been here since January so this could well be their second year. The site said they're biennial so I hope they spread plenty of seeds for next year.
Sorry nutcutlet, I didn't see your earlier post (too busy hacking at the huge bush that looks like rosemary but doesn't smell that's blocking the sun from my greenhouse) but have googled the versicolor and the leaves do match. I will save some seeds as it's been my favourite plant in our new garden. ?

Oenothera but not biennis.
There are lots. Could be one of the paler versions of Oenothera versicolor. The leaves are right

I'd save some of the seed and set it in pots. I don't find all the species self seed quite as well as Oenothera biennis.
Some of the others will flower in the first year but aren't reliably hardy. I think this may be one of those.

I think they're lovely, more delicate looking than the native Oenothera biennis. But I can't keep them without taking some action.
Chucking it down here, no gardening today
