Advice on Snake Plant propagation

I have recently attempted to propagate my snake plant using some instructions found on the internet.
Cut a leaf using clean shears, divide the leaf into four and put in some new soil. Making sure to keep the soil moist but not soaking.
I've kept the plant out of direct sunlight, deciding the place on the kitchen side about a metre from a south-west facing window.
The cuttings have crusted over brown at the top (I'm told this is normal) but have gone limp and slightly see-through. See the photographs.
Does anyone have experience in propagating snake plants? Is this normal or has my attempt failed?
Many thanks in advance!

Hi Bernie. The two cuttings with the blackened stems look as if they have not taken and I cannot see the other two cuttings very clearly. How long have the cuttings been in the pot? I divide mine rather than take cuttings then I can be sure I have some roots on the new plant.
Sanseveria don't like a lot of water, they rot. I would have used a grittier compost. They should root in about four weeks, but longer to get new shoots growing. The variegated type usually revert to green if grown by leaf cuttings. To preserve the variegation, you have to split the original plant.
Many thanks for your advice fidgetbones, hollie hock and Ladybird
The cuttings have been sitting in the pot for about 4 weeks. Just slightly concerned that they are limp and almost transparent. I'll try splitting the original plant and planting in grittier soil.
Thank you for your advice hollie hock. Very helpful indeed.
