Hybrid. Clematis, Acer.

Just wondering about this plant I have in my yard. I bought a Clematis and a Japanese Acer and it seems they have hybridised into a lovely climbing plant with big leaves. Its also growing very fast.
Is this a common thing?

No, it's not common, it's an impossibility. A clematis cannot hybridise with an acer.
I think what you have there is a parthenocissus of some sort.

Oh ok, I learn something new everyday,
Its just I have never planted anything else and it climbs like a Clematis but have the leaves of the Acer, although green leaves and not red.
I suppose you could understand my confusion as I aint got green fingers.

But what happened to your clematis and your acer?

I still have them. I've moved the clematis to another corner and the new one is strangling the acer so just going to see what comes with now. My yard is only three foot square with seven foot walls, kinda telephone boxy. Just trying to bring a bit of nature to an otherwise boring yard.
Yes, it is growing fast and spreading along the wall so will keep an eye on it. Glogal domination if for me and not a plant.

I agree. If it gets far enough it will investigate and invade any weak spots in your brick work, window frames, guttering and eaves and cause all sorts of bovver. Lose the thug and nurture your clematis and acer.
It hurts me but common sense must prevail as me and bovver don't really get along very well. I also have a cherry tree, a bit of ivy and a couple of fuchsias so i won't miss it.
Im looking for something to cover the walls if anyone can help. Something with big green leaves. I was thinking of putting up some netting and getting something to climb up it. Any ideas?.
