Verbena Bonariensis, and Salvia Hot Lips
Hi, i was just wondering, once Verbena Bonariensis have finished flowering and are looking a bit scraggy, do you cut them right back or do you leave them tall, and when do you do this, also, Salvia Hot Lips, do you cut that right back aswell to make it bushy next year, thankyou for your help. D

Cut back the vb. If it looks a bit scraggly next year, hoik it out. There'll be plenty of self-seeders to replace it.
Leave the salvia until next year, although you can lightly tidy it now to stop it getting blown about. That extra top growth will give it a little protection over the winter months. Next April, give it a good hair cut. The verbena can be tidied down when the stems have faded (although it'll not bother it too much if they're left as they'll die back anyway). Good idea to tidy them to stop them being 'wind rocked', like you would with roses.
