Overhead shade

So some of my northwest facing strip is actually under a substantial balcony. Not quite like being under tree as they ' drip'  matter thats not healthful, but anyone else have perenial flowering plants in such conditions- what do you find does well? It does GET a nice blast of sun around 2pm or later but the additional overhead shading annoys me! I HAD lupins but they had rampant Aphids also my amenomes faded away to nothing. A day lilly does quite well there, my lavendar quite ropey and dusty,
