Bountiful cooking apple with a strange flesh inside
in Fruit & veg
These apples appeared ripe, the right skin colour and came off the tree with hardly a touch. However, upon cutting open then flesh has a huge amount of 'clear' patches....any ideas anyone? Can they be used or not? The apple tree is new this year and produced about 8 decent sized fruit.
Many thanks

Look up 'watercore'. Prevalent around ripening time when weather's hot. Some varieties more susceptible. Heavy watering around August time would help. A bit late now, of course, but something to bear in mind for next year.

Thanks to you both! After reading your replies, they were made into a pie and totally delicious. It has been a hot summer down south, and STILL is
) With them being new trees and having some watering, but with their root systems not large I guess this was the reason. A delicacy in Japan ey......I've created something special !! LOL
