weeds weeds everywhere!

i have a question- i moved into my new home a year ago i was very lucky as i have a large garden which was originally just a grass lawn.

we sectioned off a large area for vegetables, a green house and even chickens.

i also have now a very large flower bed up one side of the garden. i want, in the future to have a lovely established 'cottage' garden.

there is a strong wind that goes through our garden so i have to get plants that are quite hardy the only problem is because the garden isnt established i have areas of space which i want the plants to grow into however every week i'm weeding more and more docs! i'm getting out the whole root but its getting me down because its really hard work and it always seems that docs just cover my plants!

what can i do to help with this? as i said its getting me down and some days i'm just not enjoying it :-(

any help would be appreciated!

Docks are troublesome. The seeds seen to germinate at different times so it seems there are always new docks appearing.

I had a big problem with docs the last couple of yrs when I must have got dock and nettle seeds in my compost - they were coming up everywhere.

I find that roundup works well on them (or you can get the super-strength stuff called Rosate36 from Amaz..) they're both harmless to the soil.
Spray when the plants are growing well and no rain forecast until it's dried (about 6 hrs) and leave them for 2 weeks. They may need another blast to ensure they're dead. Most important is to leave them until they are completely dead - so about 4 weeks

We're on heavy clay, been here 5 years and were overun with docs

I too would go for Roundup. If you don't have that many, ( seems unlikely ) you can use the gel type and just rub it on each leaf, otherwise spray. It's neutralised on soil contact so no long term issues.

You need to do it soon as plants have to " be in active growth" .

    Good luck and don't despair.

If you keep on top of them this year they will be less troublesome next year. Presumably you have just dug the border this year - that will have disturbed the soil and made lots of new seeds come to the surface and germinate. Do not despair - it will get better.
