Bay tree leaf problem

Hi,
I have a small bay tree and have noticed leafs that have curled over and starting to die, when I open them out sometimes the leaf is wet and sticky and other times there is a caterpillar inside, what is causing this? And how do I stop it?

Spray the tree with a strong jet of water and snip off the worst affected shoots. I don't know what the bugs are called but it's not terminal
Thanks,
It would be helpful if I know what I am dealing with, when I find caterpillars if I don't kill them they seem to escape quickly on to the floor.

I'm not sure what they are but I just remove the affected leaves - there aren't that many.

You, or rather your bay tree, could have Bay Sucker. This doesn't involve caterpillars but I wonder if they could be taking advantage of the curled leaves to find somewhere to hide.
