Lynne I think you could pull that round into compliance, but a rigorous and strict regime would be required. You might find turf or seed easier in the long run...
There looks to be quite a bit of moss, so are there any remedial problems that you may need to fix first...ie drainage?
Yep, lots of moss, daisies, dandelions. We are on clay soil so drainage is terrible. Fairygirl said that it wouldn't matter how good the turf was I would still get the same problems if the conditions remained the same. How do you counteract clay soil, other than digging it up and removing? That's not gonna happen, far too much work. Thanks for input though
Understood - not sure though - im on clay, and clay like ive never seen before....... and ive, managed to pull it together ok? Glad you sorted with a plan anyway.
I think its a bit of hard work and follow all the other guides, deal with any major issues eg drainage or think about shade etc, then it involves weed and feed, aeration, seeding and top dressing. the lawnsmith online has a superb precis on the processes involved; have a look.
It really depends on what you are after. If you want instant perfection you might struggle, but if you are content to improve over time then read the advice, formulate a plan and enjoy the process.
Alternatively, and not necessarily a bad plan, accept its too much grief for you and deck the lot!
